Mark Everett Johnson has been writing breakthrough direct response copy for major mailers since 1981.
He began his career at The Viguerie Company in our nation’s capital. There he wrote a grassroots lobbying package on tax reform which had its results printed on the front page of the Wall Street Journal … “13 million [letters mailed], 300,000 favorable replies.” Based on this letter, Mark’s account grew to become the agency’s largest mailer. This package also kicked off Mark’s 25-year association with the world’s foremost direct mail production firm, then known as Response Graphics and today a part of the RR Donnelley Company.
Mark moved to the publishing world as copy chief and later creative director for Rodale from 1985 to 1992. He quickly established himself with breakthrough direct mail packages for Prevention magazine and the Prevention Book Club. He went on to write new business and renewal controls for numerous Rodale magazines including American Woodworker, Scuba Diving and The New Farm.
Mark's letter for the book Country Furniture launched a new product line for Rodale Books and was named one of the 66 most successful direct mail letters of all time by Denny Hatch in his book Million Dollar Mailings.
Mark’s work at Viguerie and Rodale allowed him to work with and learn from direct marketing industry legends Dick Benson, Henry Cowen, Gordon Grossman, Bob Teufel,
